Greater Cincinnati Ignatian Volunteer Corps was founded by the Chicago Province of Jesuits in 2006 after their feasibility study in 2005 found the need for non-profits serving the poor to be great enough to recruit and sustain volunteers.
Sam Schloemer served as the first Regional Director and in 2012 handed the torch to Linda Wihl, who currently serves. Fr. Joe Folzenlogen, SJ, one of our founding Jesuit Fathers, serves as our regional Spiritual Animator.
The Ignatian Volunteer Corps of Greater Cincinnati has been featured in the Catholic Telegraph (Archdiocese of Cincinnati, Ohio) and the Catholic Messenger (Diocese of Covington, Kentucky). We have grown to 30 volunteers who serve in more than twenty sites and will provide over ten thousand hours of service this coming volunteer year (September 1st–June 30th).
Our volunteers find:
- Purposeful, fulfilling service—serving those in need 8-16 hours per week, 10 months a year
- A faith-sharing community—monthly volunteer gatherings & service site companionship
- A deepening relationship with God through reflection, spiritual direction & semi-annual retreats
Join us in enriching the lives of others and your life will be blessed and enriched as well!
