RECENT EVENTS:
IVC San Diego 2010 Della Strada Award Reception
On Sunday, April 18, 2010, the San Diego region honored San Diego Catholic Worker as an organization whose mission reflects the Ignatian values of service to the poor, and of working and educating for a more just society. Since 1979 Catholic Worker has served hundreds of thousands of meals, distributed clothing and toiletries, supported other nonprofits, helped former inmates transition back into society and just this year opened their House of Hospitality.
This year's event featured a Taste of IVC San Diego with savory hors d ‘oeuvres, sweet delights, a silent auction, and live entertainment.
Many thanks to all who attended to support IVC and the Catholic Worker.
IVC Washington DC/ Metro Maryland & IVC Northern Virginia 4th Annual Evening of Gratitude
On Sunday, April 25, 2010 friends of IVC in the DC, Maryland and Northern Virginia areas recognized Mike and Kathleen Curtin and their son, Mike Curtin, Jr., with our first-ever presentation of the Della Strada Award honoring “lives that reflect the Ignatian values of direct service to the poor and of working and educating for a more just society.”
Michael Curtin Sr. is a past IVC board chair, Kathleen is an IVC spiritual reflector and son Michael is CEO of IVC’s D.C. Central Kitchen, which works to build long-term solutions to poverty, hunger and homelessness.
Thanks to the Curtin family and to everyone who attended to make this such a special and successful event.
Della Strada Award![]()
The Della Strada Award is named after Santa Maria della
Strada, the first church used by St. Ignatius and the early
Jesuits to serve the urban poor in the center of Rome. The
award honors an individual or an organization whose life
and/or mission reflects the Ignatian values of service to the
poor, and of working and educating for a more just society.
