VOLUNTEERS

Ignatian Volunteers commit to serve two days a week for 10 months
a year.  Many volunteers renew that commitment year after year. Volunteers spend their time in local Service Sites that are identified as IVC partners.  These community organizations work directly with people who are materially poor or in organizations that address the structures that affect people who are poor.  Care is taken in matching a volunteer's talents to an organization’s needs, but often volunteers discover and develop new skills when they choose to work at projects unrelated to their former job experience.

The men and women who serve in IVC are people who are eagerly moving to a new phase of their lives. Their backgrounds are broad. Ignatian Volunteers have either retired from their primary careers, or they reduced the amount of time they work each week as they move towards full time retirement.

Endowed with a generosity of spirit, they have a desire to make use of their talents in service to others. An attribute shared by all is that they have valuable life experiences to tap into, as well as a sense of maturity and a readiness to reach out and share their wisdom and skills with others.

Above all else, Ignatian Volunteers are men and women who want to give of themselves in response to the blessings and love that God has given to them. They want to grow spiritually by living the gospel in a new way at this time in their lives. Ignatian Volunteers are willing to reflect personally and with others in order to deepen their understanding of and experience with those who are materially poor and marginalized. It is a wonderful opportunity to make a difference in the world in which we live.
