IVC Los Angeles Volunteer Stories
John is one of the three founding member of IVC Los Angeles.  He came for the spiritual growth and guidance offered by IVC.  It is his desire to help others in a “Christ-like manner.”

John has worn many different hats in IVC, always serving to the best of his ability and always wanting to do more.  John has been at A Place Called Home since last year.  Located in South-Central Los Angeles, A Place Called Home is a youth enrichment center whose mission is to provide at-risk youth with a secure, positive family environment where they can realize their dreams through educational enrichment.

John goes in 2-3 times a week to serve as a tutor to neighborhood children who have dropped out of traditional school, but come to the center for the support to continue their education and graduate.   “I did not realize how draining tutoring or teaching can be,” he says.  “The students can see that, at times, I struggle with the subject matter also. One advantage that I have is access to the teacher’s answer book. I think being consistent is a key factor in being successful as a volunteer.”
