Ignatian Volunteer Marie Girovasi serves at St. Martin de Porres Senior Center, a program of Catholic Charities of the Arlington Diocese. Marie shared this:
Parties are fun times at St. Martin’s. There are monthly birthday parties, “special day” parties, such as “Cinco de Mayo” and Memorial Day. Live music – guitar, accordion – gets us singing, dancing, and laughing. We always end our parties with all of us coming together holding hands and singing “God Bless America.”
From my journal:
“So tired and achy do I feel, but such fun did I have dancing – the Hokey Pokey, When the Saints Go Marching In – we danced, so many of us, such fun, we sang, we clapped. “Not as the world loves do I love you.” Forget about the world for a while. This is the place for now where I am. Thank you, Lord; help me, Lord. So much I don’t understand; so many suffer; so many ways. But for a little while we dance.”
