As an Ignatian Volunteer you can make a difference by positively impacting those in your Community who are in need of assistance. The Ignatian Volunteer Corps taps into the nation’s greatest resource- women and men age 50 and older. These individuals use their talent to help improve the lives of people in most need, as well as to address the issues related to poverty. Each IVC Volunteer commits to serve one or two days per week at a Partnering Agency. The Agency’s have joined together with IVC to provide meaningful and supported service opportunities for the IVC Volunteer. The IVC program also provides to the Volunteers the opportunity to discover a deeper meaning of the work they do, through reflection and praying in the Ignatian Tradition- individually and communally- which deepens the experience of their service, and is a unique feature of the Ignatian Volunteer Corps.
Volunteers reflect on their service experience by:
- Keeping a journal
- Meeting individually each month with a spiritual reflector
- Meeting as a community each month with local Ignatian Volunteers
- Gathering throughout the year for a retreat of day of reflection.
“We had the experience but missed the meaning.”
-T.S. Eliot, The Four Quartets
