We are growing! This year, we currently have 50 Volunteers working at more than 20 partner service sites in direct service to people who are poor and marginalized. IVC volunteers serve 1 or 2 days a week (or equivalent hours) from September through June.
We gather once a month to pray, share our service experiences, and discuss “Tomorrow’s Catholic” by Michael Morwood, the inspirational book we are reading along with the other 15 IVC regions. Each Volunteer meets monthly with a Spiritual Reflector to discuss the effect that working with the poor has on their faith journey. Volunteers also journal, gather for two Days of Prayer, and make an overnight Annual Retreat – all wonderful opportunities to build community and contemplate God’s presence in our lives and the people we serve.
You are welcome to join us at a monthly meeting to see who we are and what we do! As there are more than 30 service sites, many agencies are waiting for volunteers. We accept applicants on a rolling basis. Many agencies are waiting for new IVC volunteers. Think it over. Pray. Are you a mature, grateful, semi-retired/retired man or woman? Got time? --- Got talent? --- Give back! The benefits are out of this world!

Special Event...
IVC San Diego presented DEAD MAN WALKING - THE JOURNEY CONTINUES with Sr. Helen Prejean, CSJ, on Sunday, November 20, 2011 at The Immaculata Church on the University of San Diego campus. Invited by IVC San Diego and co-hosted by The Immaculata and seven USD departments (University Ministry, the College of Arts and Sciences, Center for Catholic Thought and Culture, the Joan B. Kroc School of Peace Studies, the School of Law, the Center for Educational Excellence, and the Department of Sociology), the event was piggy-backed by California People of Faith Working Against the Death Penalty (http://www.californiapeopleoffaith.org/) through the recently launched SAFE Campaign (http://www.safecalifornia.org/) to place an initiative on the 2012 ballot to abolish the death penalty. Special Viewing...
On November 7, 2010, IVC, Loyola Institute for Spirituality, & the University of San Diego co-hosted Fr. Greg Boyle, SJ, Founder of Homeboy Industries, at The Immaculata Church on the USD campus. Fr. Greg shared stories of struggle and hope, and his reflections on God's unconditional love through 20+ years of ministry to gangs at Homeboy Industries. We were so delighted to be able to host Fr. Greg and support his work. By popular request, you can watch his presentation here.
